I was wrong about World War III… it’ll actually be Cold War II
Yesterday, I wrote about how I think that the Bush-McCain foreign policy can only end with World War III. I received a few angry comments about how it’s apparently important for us to stay in the Middle East and “fight terrorism;” of course, none of those comments addressed my actual point, which was that our actions counterproductive and that their net effect is to strengthen the terrorist groups. Well, it turns out that they may have been right about one thing: another World War isn’t necessarily the most likely consequence of our current plan.
The New Republic posted an article today that made a point that was similar to the one I made yesterday, except that they are predicting another Cold War rather than another World War. Honestly, I think they’re probably right… it’s unlikely that anything will escalate into an all-out military brawl, but it’s obvious that we’re seeing the start of a large international rift. Now the question is just how we’ll stop it.
