Global Warming: a scientist’s perspective

Global Warming: a scientist's perspective

I recently put up a guest post on another person’s blog about my perspective on global warming, as one of the rare scientists who actually enjoys writing about issues. Click here to check it out.

Studies show that people are consistently bad at describing themselves, so I'll try to be objective. I consider myself a citizen of the world. I am a scientist by training. I love to express my opinions. I come from a Muslim background. I was born in Pakistan, but currently live in the US. Rationality and pragmatism define everything I do (and write). If I suggest something, I will try my best to back it up with facts whenever possible.

  1. I just read your article on the other blog. In addition to being well-written and fact-driven, it had a call to action and provided tactical steps scientists could take to better educate the public. Getting scientists to publish in more mainstream media would be great!

  3. I read your article and it was well written!

Much like the contreversay over the linke to tobacco and cancer businesses like Exxon and Mobile have paid some scientists to speak out against the truth of global warming in an effort to place doubt in peoples minds. Anyone who doesn’t believe they did can look it up for themselves its well documented that oil companies did do that. How greedy do you have to be to run a billion dollar corporation and still feel threatened enough to pay scietists off so you can keep making money even when the future and health of your children are at stake? It’s really disgusting.

  5. Dear Shan,

I read your article about Global Warming. I’m not a scientist but I have done a substantial amount of research on alternative technologies. I have a thermodynamics and mechanical engineering background, but have never used it. You nailed it about ethanol and biodiesel. Corn ethanol is not green friendly at all. In fact, it is a pollutant from all the studies I have done. I can’t believe that smart investors got sold on the ethanol concept. My prediction is that unless they figure out how to convert switchgrass soon on large scale, they are going to hit a major wall.

I don’t have your background but I believe that green algae is the potential answer. I’ve read research about algae’s ability to produce hydrogen. I hope we crack the code to mass produce it because if we don’t, we are going to have some serious problems.

Environment is so damn complex. :-)

P.S. I am a big fan of scientists.
